The words, in plain English.

Geospatial work is full of jargon. Here is what the important terms actually mean.

ADS-B

The system aircraft use to broadcast their position. It is how flight tracking works, and one of GEOSY's live data feeds.

AIS

Automatic Identification System: the transponder signal ships broadcast with their identity, position and course. The backbone of vessel tracking.

Area of interest (AOI)

Any place you decide to watch: a facility, a port, a district, a border stretch. In GEOSY, an AOI becomes a site.

Cadastre

The official register of land: who holds which parcel, with what boundaries. Many countries still keep theirs on paper; GEOSY helps make them digital.

Change detection

AI comparing images of the same place over time and flagging what is different: a new building, cleared land, a vessel that arrived.

Dark vessel

A ship that has switched off its AIS transponder, often to avoid attention. The silence itself is a signal worth checking against imagery.

Data residency

Keeping data physically stored within a chosen country or region, usually to satisfy national law. GEOSY offers regional residency options.

Detection confidence

A score showing how sure the AI is about a detection. High confidence means act; lower confidence means look first. Every GEOSY detection carries one.

Geofence

A virtual boundary on the map that watches behaviour: alerting when an asset enters, leaves, lingers or meets another asset inside it.

Geospatial intelligence (GEOINT)

Insight produced from imagery and location data about activity on earth: what is happening, where, and why it matters.

GIS

Geographic Information System: software and databases for storing and analysing information tied to locations. The traditional tool of the trade, usually specialist operated.

OSINT

Open source intelligence: insight drawn from publicly available information such as news, records and public posts. GEOSY pins it to real places.

Remote sensing

Observing the earth from a distance, mainly by satellite or aircraft sensors, rather than visiting in person.

Satellite imagery

Pictures of earth taken from orbit. Modern constellations revisit most places frequently, which is what makes continuous monitoring possible.
